OSSC HEADS BACK TO THE EAST COAST FOR THE MID-ATLANTIC QUALIFIER

The Mid-Atlantic Qualifier of the 2017 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge has been called on for Wed., Aug. 16, on the north side of Jennette’s Pier at Gray Eagle Beach in Nags Head, North Carolina. The event was rescheduled from this past April when conditions weren’t favorable enough for running the contest.

Forecasters predict three to four foot fading ESE swell from tropical storm Gert. Winds will be calm to light onshore becoming NE/E at 8-10 knots in the afternoon. Competitors will meet at 8:00 with competition expected to get under way by 8:30 or 9:00 am, depending on conditions.

Local surf shops from around the area will compete for the opportunity to represent the Mid-Atlantic region against six other finalists from Hawaii, New Jersey, Northern California, Florida and California.

The unique event series, which has been running since the 1980s, pits four-man surf shop teams (two sponsored surfers and two shop employees) against each other. The winning team from each of the seven regional qualifiers will win an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the National Championship this fall for a cash prize package and title of America’s Most Core Surf Shop.
